The ProVision2 stands out for its simplicity and user-friendliness. Its clean forms, large windows, and good illumination are designed to reduce discomfort for travelers. The scanner's interface uses a generic human graphic to indicate targets, not an image of the body, addressing passengers' concerns about personal privacy. Furthermore, the scanner can be easily installed in small spaces and fits through standard doorways, making it a practical choice for various locations.
The scanner's design allows for easy manufacture using a steel framework to support the mechanism, skins, and windows. Single manufactured assemblies replace multiple parts, and components are arranged in space-saving orientations to reduce volume. The design allows for self-alignment upon assembly, and Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) is used for durability, finish, and cost. The design was validated at a testing lab after a prototype was assembled for study and improvements.
The operation of the ProVision2 is straightforward. The security person calls a traveler to enter the scanner, selects the scan function on the touchscreen, and the antenna moves through its range of motion. The display indicates with a mannequin if any threats are found and where on the body. The entire process takes approximately 1.5 seconds, making it an efficient solution for busy airports.
The design process of the ProVision2 started in summer of 2012 and was completed in October 2012 in Ronkonkoma, New York, USA. The project was driven by a need to understand the future of security and provide a solution that catered to the needs of various user groups. The result was an unobtrusive design that uses safe active millimeter wave-technology, reduces total cost of ownership, improves system performance, and enhances user experience.
The ProVision2 has been recognized for its innovative approach to security, winning the Golden A' Security, Safety, and Surveillance Products Design Award in 2014. This award is granted to outstanding creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, advance art, science, design, and technology, and significantly impact the world with their desirable characteristics.
With its unique properties and award-winning design, the ProVision2 is a testament to Intelligent Product Solutions' commitment to innovation and user-centric design. It is a significant step forward in airport security, offering a balance of comfort and safety that sets a new standard in the industry.
